Located just north of Martin Luther King National Historic Site (I-75 and Freedom Pkwy NE), the Atlanta Medical Center has been serving the community since its founding in 1901. The 460-bed tertiary care hospital is a Level II trauma center supported by aeromedical services. In addition to trauma, specialties include advanced cardiology, neurology, surgery, oncology, women's health, orthopedics, and rehabilitation. Accredited by the nation's oldest and largest hospital accreditation agency, the JCAHO, Atlanta Medical Center campus also includes a comprehensive cancer center, called the Specialty Clinic; the Sheffield HealthCare community health center, and the Wellness Center, which houses the Highland Athletic Club, Atlanta Weight Loss Center and outpatient rehab program.
