How Northwood Elementary – Name
During the construction phase of Northwood Elementary, the site was referred to as the “Wooten Road Site” by the county. A committee comprising parents and select staff members put forward three potential names: Northwood, Arbor Ridge, and Pinecrest. After careful deliberation, the committee ultimately decided on the name “Northwood” for the school.
Northwood Elementary School Colors
In the autumn of 1996, students, faculty, and staff participated in a vote to select our school colors. The colors red, white, and blue were chosen. These iconic colors have fostered a sense of patriotism among our Explorers throughout the years.
Mascot – Explorer
Northwood Elementary School mascot, the Explorer, transcends gender and race boundaries. Whether depicted as a boy or a girl, of any race, the Explorer embodies the spirit of adventure and exploration. With the ability to venture into space, explore the globe, and navigate the unknown, the Explorer symbolizes boundless possibilities. Additionally, the biplane serves as a secondary symbol, further representing the adventurous spirit of our school community.
Logo
The Northwood Logo, crafted in 1996 by Ken Mack-Solden, a parent and skilled graphic designer, stands as a unique representation of our school’s identity. Departing from the traditional square form of a capital letter “N,” our logo exhibits flexibility with bends on both sides. Mr. Solden conceived the motto, “Where reaching for the stars is elementary!” Within the stylized “N,” six stars symbolize each grade level from kindergarten through fifth grade. Additionally, an outreaching hand inside the “N” symbolizes the aspiration to reach for the stars and achieve excellence.
