About Our School
Located in Sandy Springs, Georgia, Spalding Drive Elementary School has been serving the community since its establishment in 1966. Initially catering to students in grades one through seven with just twelve classrooms, the school expanded in 1968 to accommodate a new twelve-room addition. Over the years, our school has evolved to meet the changing needs of its students and community.
In the 1970s, full-time Kindergarten classes were introduced, followed by the addition of another classroom wing and a separate gymnasium in the fall of 1988. Subsequent updates and improvements were made during the 1995-96 and 2007 school years to ensure the facilities remained modern and conducive to learning.
In 2003, our school achieved conversion charter school status, marking a significant milestone in its educational journey. This status brought about changes such as a uniform dress code, increased parent involvement, a focus on gifted and/or ESOL endorsed staff, and the integration of comprehensive technology into the curriculum. These initiatives aimed to create an environment that fosters exceptional learning opportunities for all students.
Today we serve approximately 500 students ranging from Pre-K to fifth grade. Despite fluctuations in enrollment due to the rapid growth of Atlanta and Sandy Springs, the school remains committed to providing quality education and preparing students for success in an ever-changing world.
